From a Single Service Truck to San Antonio's Trusted Name
Umbrella Garage Doors was founded in 2009 by Donald Thompson. Donald grew up in the trade β his grandfather installed overhead doors in Houston in the late 1960s, and his father ran a small repair shop on the North Side of San Antonio for 28 years.
After serving four years as a Marine Corps mechanic and another six as a foreman for a national door franchise, Donald saw a gap in the local market: homeowners were tired of corporate dispatch lines, surprise upcharges, and rotating sub-contractors who didn't know the area or the product.
So in 2009, with one used Ford F-250 and a borrowed welder, he opened Umbrella Garage Doors out of the family garage on Todds Lane. Today the company operates a fleet of fully-stocked service vans, employs a team of certified technicians, and serves more than 1,200 households and businesses every year.
